Artist Statement
My practice explores the interplay of form, color, and materiality, rooted in a fascination with clay’s tactile potential. With a background in drawing and painting, I carry an understanding of gesture into ceramics, translating line and movement into three-dimensional form. This approach drives my process, where experimentation, adaptation, and problem-solving guide the coordinated interplay of hand, body, and material.
I merge wheel-throwing and mold-making to produce forms that balance precision with expressive variation. This hybrid process allows me to navigate the space between repetition and individuality, utility and ornament, while testing new glazes, slips, and clays. By embracing experimentation, I aim to build a visual language that challenges assumptions about function and value.
Recent work has focused on reimagining familiar objects—such as brushes—into sculptural pieces that blur boundaries between tool, vessel, and artwork. I utilize color and surface, recently cobalt, to create dialogue between history and contemporary practice, evoking both cultural resonance and personal narrative.
My artistic goals are twofold: to continue developing a body of work that investigates queer identity and material history through ceramics, and to share the possibilities of mold-making and glazing in community contexts. I believe these processes—often seen as overly technical or intimidating—can become sources of joy, experimentation, and connection when approached openly.
